Śarīra

More commonly known as relics, shrines or ringsels.

These are purportedly pearl-like remnants of a person after cremation.

In a Buddhist's point of view, these are believed to embody the spiritual knowledge, teachings, realizations or living essence of spiritual masters. They are taken as evidence of the masters' enlightenment and spiritual purity.

This particular Śarīra is approximately 2 millimeters in diameter and weighs less than 1 gram.

Believed to be a bone sarira with brownish white colour. It has a bone-like structure upon applying magnification, however, it has nodules spread sporadically all over the links.

Photographed with Olympus E A40 0.65 160/0.17 microscope objective on 12th February 2013.
